GRANITE is an igneous rock formed when magma solidifies over millions of years. Due to the intense heat and pressure inside the earth, granite is one of the hardest natural substances and the most durable natural stone.
MARBLE is a metamorphic rock that is created when limestone and sediments undergo tremendous pressure and heat. The result is a very compact mosaic, calcified stone. Marble can de very hard or soft depending on the pressure it was subjected to and the calcium content.
LIMESTONE is a sedimentary rock formed when layers of shells and organic material build up over time. The calcified deposits harden under pressure and create the commonly used stone.
TRAVERTINE is a terrestrial sedimentary rock created from carbonate minerals in sediments which are often colonized by various organisms. Over time, the hard shells and bodies of the animals create a hard, porous stone.
Is granite dangerous because of Radon emission ? The Radon content of Air is 270,000 times greater than that released by the average Granite counter top. In fact, a baked potato emits more radon than granite.
Does natural stone harbor Bacteria ? Studies show that the bacteria content of natural stone is very low, and that it is very resistant, second only to stainless steel.
Will hot pots and pans damage the counter top ? Granite can withstand temperatures of up to 1200 degrees Fahrenheit, so unless the pot is full of LAVA, you should be OK.
Does Granite scratch easily ? The two main things that will scratch granite easily are a Good Diamond or the edge of a piece of granite. In fact you can use it as a cutting board...not recommended because the granite will ruin your good knives.
